The story

Kallar Kahar Lake sits at about 1,500 ft beside the M2 Motorway, roughly 25 km from Chakwal city. The district government calls it a salt water lake about 8 km across with a maximum depth of 4 to 5 ft. Babur camped here on his march from Kabul and described it as a charming place; his memoir put the lake at about six miles round. It is fed by hill runoff and a spring on its west side, and its reeds shelter coots. The area was a natural sanctuary for peacocks, though their numbers have fallen.
