Chharkian, also spelt Achhrakian or Achhrakiān, is a village in District Chakwal, Punjab, Pakistan. It lies on the Potohar plateau, a land of dry ravines, with the Salt Range to the south.
Across the Potohar, farming depends on the rain. Wheat and groundnut are the main crops of the plateau, and many families have members serving in the army or working abroad.
Chharkian is about 22 km from Talagang, 32 km from the Kallar Kahar lake and the Kallar Kahar interchange on the M2 motorway, and 39 km from Lawa. The village's own story, its people and its past, is still waiting to be told by those who know it best.
