This is Samlal.
Samlal is a village in District Chakwal, in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It lies about 27 km in a straight line from Rawalpindi, 31 km from Islamabad airport, 45 km from Dhudial and 52 km from Chakwal city.
The wider area is the Potohar plateau: dry, ravined country where farming depends on rain, with wheat and groundnut as the main crops. The Salt Range rises to the south. Across this area, many families have members serving in the army or working abroad, and Samlal is part of that wider story.
The full history of Samlal, its families and its traditions is still to be told. The people of this village are the ones who can tell it best.
