Sauwal, also written Saowal, Savwal or Sāvwāl, is a village in District Chakwal, Punjab, Pakistan. It lies on the Potohar plateau, a land of dry ravines and rain-fed fields, with the Salt Range to its south.
Several well-known places are within a short distance. Malot temple is about 16 km away, Choa Saidan Shah and Dandot in the Salt Range about 17 km, and the Katas Raj temples about 20 km, all in straight-line distance.
On the Potohar plateau, farming means wheat and groundnut, grown on rain alone, and many families in the wider area have members serving in the army or working abroad. The full story of Sauwal, its families and its days is still to be told by its own people.
