Chakwal lies on the Potohar Plateau in District Chakwal, Punjab, Pakistan, a land of flat to gently rolling fields cut by gullies and low hills. The Salt Range lies to the south. The village is about 90 kilometres south-west of Islamabad, and Chakwal is the district headquarters.

Life here has long been shaped by the land. Families grow wheat and groundnuts on rain-fed fields, and the rainfall is erratic, which can bring erosion and sometimes flooding. Many families have members serving in the army or working abroad.
