Malana is a village in District Chakwal, in Punjab, Pakistan. It lies on the Potohar plateau, a land of dry ravines and rain-fed fields, with the Salt Range to the south. Rawalpindi is about 17 km away in a straight line, and Chakwal city about 60 km.
Across the plateau, many families have members serving in the army or working abroad, and that is true of the families who call this area home. The village's own history has not yet been written down here, so the full story of Malana is still to be told by the people who live in it and by those who carry it with them overseas.
